Roy Revisited: The Serious Side of Chocolate

The candy store that's not for kids.
In a city that’s bursting with chocolatiers, Roy is a rare find. From a small shop on a Trocadero side street, Roy Chocolatier sells traditional French chocolates without the elaborate marketing and frou-frou packaging associated with other Parisian brands. At Roy the focus is simply on the quality of the chocolate, as specially selected from French artisans by Roy’s rather stern proprietress, Claire Leroux.
Under Mme. Leroux’s strict eye, nothing but the finest produce can be found behind the glass of Roy’s austere counter. Among the exquisite selection are pralines, ganaches and the house speciality, Parisian Tiles (thin chocolate squares) which come in a variety of flavours including 100% cocoa, creamy white chocolate, and an addictive salted milk caramel.
Seemingly unchanged since it first opened in 1948, Roy is the epitome of old-fashioned ‘quality over quantity’ values. Yet despite the aura of belonging to another era, Roy caters to today’s clients by even offering a range suitable for diabetics and low-carb diets. It was also early to embrace the internet, and has been selling its delicious confections online for well over a decade, so that chocolate lovers around the globe can have easy access to a taste of traditional Paris Style.
And thanks to Roy’s four-hour deliver service within Paris, in-the-know Parisians are never more than a click away from a seriously indulgent gift.
